The stars of “Celeste and Jesse Forever” came out for a special screening at the Landmark Sunshine Theater on Wednesday evening.
“Parks and Recreation” co-stars Amy Poehler and Aziz Ansari both came out to support the film’s female lead, played by Rashida Jones.
Jones– who also co-wrote “Celeste and Jesse Forever” with Will McCormack– recently opened up to HuffPost about the complicated love entanglement Jones’ character finds herself in after divorcing her husband (played by Andy Samberg) but still spending all their time together as a duo:
You know, it was kind of a trend that Will and I saw among our friends. It was almost like a cultural phenomenon that we kept seeing. One was the Type A woman with the more laid-back, beta dude. And the other was people trying to stay friends. Because we wait so long to get married now. A lot of people we know would meet in college and fall in love, and you think this is the person they’re gonna be with forever. But then there are all these choices, and people change, but you don’t want to lose the person that you grew up with, because they’re almost like a family member. So you try to do this selfish, unrealistic thing of keeping them around without really dealing with the fact that the dynamic has changed.
Anne Hathaway, Mike Nichols, and Alexa Chung were also among the big names celebrating the film’s release.
